DOHC awards an additional $30,000 to three local nonprofits

Employees make their voices heard for philanthropy at Desert Oasis Healthcare

(June 7, 2024 – Palm Springs, CA)
When Desert Oasis Healthcare (DOHC) held its annual Employee Appreciation Banquet last night, one of the highlights was the announcement of voting in the “Employee Choice $30K Giveaway.”

Employees of DOHC, as well as its sister company, Family Hospice Care, had been asked to nominate and then vote on the local nonprofit organizations they most wanted to see benefit from this giving. With more than 46% of collective employee nominations being for three organizations, employees then voted to award Palm Springs Animal Shelter $15,000 while Desert Cancer Foundation will receive $10,000 and FIND Food Bank $5,000.

“Beyond the obvious fact that our employees are animal lovers in voting for this significant donation to Palm Springs Animal Shelter, we also know the therapeutic benefit of pets in general and how their presence can help people who are healing in many ways,” said Marc Hoffing, MD, MPH and Medical Director of DOHC. “We have long supported the work of the Desert Cancer Foundation in helping people pay for cancer treatment, and FIND Food Bank reminds us all that ‘food is medicine.’”

This $5,000 donation brings DOHC’s total donations to FIND Food Bank to $30,000 in 2024 after marking Doctors’ Day this year with an additional $10,000 donation, for a total of $25,000 to the annual Telethon.

“The spirit of philanthropy at DOHC has a great example in the giving spirit of Dr. Richard Merkin, who founded Heritage Provider Network, of which DOHC is a medical group member,” added Hoffing. “Dr. Merkin has founded several charitable organizations and awards, including the Heritage Medical Research Institute, the Merkin Family Foundation, The Richard N. Merkin Prize in Biomedical Technology, and other charities focused on education, children, and underserved communities.”
