Vax and Boost for the Win: Winner | DOHC

Joslyn Center awarded $5,000 as winner of “Vax & Boost for the WIN!”

Desert Oasis Healthcare also awards three other senior centers for COVID-19 efforts

(July 1, 2022 – Palm Springs, CA)
– As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to show its presence worldwide, Desert Oasis Healthcare (DOHC) has now provided nearly 100,000 vaccines and boosters, not only to its members but to the larger public as well. In April, DOHC asked their senior center partners to help give a little extra push in helping to protect as many local people as possible with vaccines and boosters.

“Evidence has shown that vaccines are a significant force in reducing the likelihood of getting COVID, as well as decreasing the severity of symptoms experienced for those who contract it,” said Lindsey Valenzuela, PharmD and Associate VP of Population Health Integration. “We were glad to bring our Mobile Health Clinic to the senior centers to provide vaccines and boosters at health fairs they already had scheduled … or to encourage them to schedule an event for their members who might be at higher risk due to age and/or being immunocompromised.”

Senior centers were eager to collaborate

Already having done a good deal of outreach about vaccines and boosters to its membership, Joslyn Center in Palm Desert quickly scheduled the DOHC Mobile Health Clinic and its staff for two second booster events, with the first on April 18 followed by a health fair on May 23. Other local senior centers also reached out to their members, donors, and volunteers to help spread the word to anyone not already vaccinated or boosted against COVID-19. Besides Joslyn Center, DOHC has donated $1,000 or more to Indio Senior Center, Cathedral City Senior Center, and Desert Hot Springs Senior Center for their “Vax & Boost” efforts.

DOHC continues vaccine efforts for younger ages and is a “Test-to-Treat” location

On June 21, DOHC began providing the new pediatric COVID-19 vaccine for those six months to five years old. Parents wanting the vaccine for their children should visit the My Turn website of the California Department of Public Health to find a walk-in clinic, make an appointment, find a testing site or to get a digital vaccine record.

As a Test-to-Treat location, DOHC can help you if you have COVID-19 symptoms and test positive. Don’t wait to get treated; you must take oral COVID-19 medication within five days of your first COVID-19 symptoms.
