Dr. Steven Brown believes great patient-centered care builds on his recommended foundations of eating healthy, exercising, and staying hydrated - especially for those living in the desert. Nevertheless, even when following all the best advice, health issues can still develop.

When Dr. Brown says he treats his patients as if they were family by keeping them informed and participatory, it has a special meaning to him. "My dad was an oral surgeon and my older brother is a world-renowned cardiologist, so l've had lifelong influences that led me to treating my patients with compassion and respect,” he continued. "I love the challenge of correctly diagnosing a patient and getting to the root of a problem. It's like a puzzle that, once solved, gives a sense of reward to both the patient and the doctor."

Keeping patients healthy extends to the athletes, mainly boxers, who Dr. Brown also serves as a ringside physician for the state athletic commissions of California and Nevada. It would probably come as no surprise that his other off-hours hobbies include tennis, working out, scuba diving, fishing, and even flying his own plane.

Dr. Brown added that his 20-year-old son "keeps me on my toes" along with his one-in-a-million labradoodle, Ziggy.
