2025 MPox In the News
Mpox (formerly known as Monkeypox) is a rare but serious viral infection caused by the mpox virus, which is part of the same family of viruses as smallpox. While symptoms are often milder than smallpox, Mpox can still cause painful rashes, fever, and flu-like symptoms.
The virus spreads through close, personal contact—including skin-to-skin contact, kissing, or contact with contaminated materials such as bedding or clothing. Anyone can get Mpox, but recent outbreaks have affected certain communities more often, including men who have sex with men, people with weakened immune systems, and those living in close quarters.
Most people recover fully, but some—especially young children, pregnant women, and those with weakened immune systems—may experience more serious illness.
Desert Oasis Healthcare is closely monitoring the current Mpox outbreak in the Coachella Valley and is here to help you stay informed, protected, and supported.
